How to Read Buy, Sell & Neutral Technical Ratings
Start with what the label summarizes—not what you hope it predicts.
Buy is a technical bias
A Buy label means TradingView’s combined technical reading falls into its Buy category for that interval. Strong Buy is a stronger category within that system. Neither label promises a positive return or says a position is suitable for you.
Sell is not a complete trading plan
A Sell label describes a bearish technical bias. It does not tell you whether to sell a holding, initiate a short position or wait. Those decisions depend on factors the gauge does not know.
Neutral means mixed technical evidence
Neutral does not mean the price is safe, stationary or certain to consolidate. Indicators can offset each other while the chart still makes large moves. Inspect price action and timeframe context.
Use the label and the chart together
- Confirm the ticker, exchange and selected timeframe.
- Read the chart for gaps, ranges and recent moves that a label hides.
- Compare the daily view with a shorter interval when needed.
- Check whether the latest candle is still forming.
Where the formula comes from
The summary combines TradingView’s moving-average and oscillator ratings. It is not an EMA-only crossover rule or an analyst recommendation. See TradingView’s formula documentation and our methodology notes.
